Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book?
Booking is really easy. Just phone me on 07305 964584 to find out when courses are running.
What can you offer that I, as an employer, can’t provide?
As an SQA trainer, assessor and verifier, I am qualified to deliver SQA’s vocational qualifications, the Personal Licence Holder and Refresher Training and the Safe Sale and Service of Alcohol workshops. On completion of their training, your staff will have an internationally recognised qualification from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). As your staff become more proficient, it may be possible for them to progress onto higher vocational programmes.
I am also Shetland’s only licensed ‘WorldHost’ trainer. The one day ‘Principles of Customer Service’ course will provide your customer-facing staff with tools and tips on how to engage with your customers. Topics covered range from understanding the importance of first impressions; communicating effectively with your customers; going the extra mile and thinking about the message that your staff give to customers about your business.
I have 20 years teaching experience as a College Lecturer at Shetland College UHI, latterly in the Business and Hospitality section. I am very familiar with SQA standards and procedures and will work hard to ensure your staff achieve their qualifications.
In 2018 I received a ‘Highly Commended’ in the University of the Highlands and Islands ‘Most Inspiring Lecturer’ Award. I was nominated for this by my students.
Do I have to pay for the training?
All SVQs are fully funded by Skills Development Scotland, so there is no charge for any vocational qualification to either the employer or employee.
